$45.00

Session Title: Innovating for Inclusion: Using Enabling Technology to Support Competitive, Integrated Employment

Session Description: Join us to explore how enabling technology can transform the ways people access and sustain competitive, integrated employment opportunities. We will focus on how a strength-based, person-centered approach uses technology throughout the employment process, from discovery and exploration to the workplace, to support self-determined and inclusive career outcomes. By aligning these practices with the Employment First framework, we will highlight strategies for creating meaningful opportunities that empower people to choose how they contribute and thrive in their communities. Participants will gain insights into how to advance a more equitable and accessible workforce through the intentional integration of innovative enabling technologies and employment services.

About Beth: Beth is an Education and Accreditation Coordinator with SHIFT. She is passionate about advocating for the rights of people with disabilities, and for inclusive practices that cultivate equitable space and opportunities for all people to have self-determined and meaningful lives. She holds an undergraduate degree in Multidisciplinary Anthropology from Appalachian State University, and earned her Master of Arts in Teaching - Special Education from Western Carolina University as a NC Inspire Teaching Fellow. She spent a decade in the classroom, serving in various settings as a special education and English teacher in public high schools in NC, TN, and VA. She then worked in inclusive higher education for a Comprehensive Transition and Postsecondary Program in Tennessee, supporting students as they integrated into their communities after graduation. In that role, she also connected with agencies, organizations, and employers across the region to foster more inclusive, person-centered employment practices.
