Tech First Talk - Session 28 - Supporting Independence with AngelSense: Real-Life Applications

$45.00

Session Title: Supporting Independence with AngelSense: Real-Life Applications

Session Description: Technology can be a valuable tool for promoting independence, safety, and inclusion for individuals with disabilities when used thoughtfully and in alignment with the Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Final Rule. This session will introduce AngelSense, an assistive technology that enhances independence by enabling communication, offering safety alerts, offering recorded proactive voice messaging and supporting autonomy while centering dignity, choice, and meaningful consent. Drawing on both my professional expertise and my lived experience as a mother, I will demonstrate AngelSense in action, sharing real-life examples of how my adult son uses this technology to navigate daily life. The presentation will emphasize how AngelSense can complement other supports, giving individuals and families additional tools to build confidence, autonomy, and connection at work, at home and in their communities.

About Hasmig: Hasmig Weber brings over 25 years of experience in the human services field, with a career spanning from managing facility-based programs to pioneering innovative community-based solutions. She is the President and Co-Founder of Inclusive Living Possibilities, a nonprofit organization committed to developing inclusive and affordable housing in Waukesha County, Wisconsin.

Hasmig is also the founder and owner of Schillful Supports, a community-supported living agency she established to empower her 21-year-old son with disabilities to live independently in his own apartment and lead a fulfilling life. Her family’s journey inspired her to author a practical guide, offering a roadmap for other families to build similar opportunities for their loved ones.

A passionate advocate for disability rights, Hasmig has been instrumental in driving policy change across Wisconsin—most notably in the areas of seclusion and restraint. She is a powerful and persistent voice on the caregiving and affordable housing crises, dedicating her work to creating lasting, inclusive solutions for individuals with disabilities and their families.
