Tech First Talk - Session 22 - Remote Job Coaching… and More! The Different Ways Enabling Technology Can Support People's Work Goals
Session Title: Remote Job Coaching… and More! The Different Ways Enabling Technology Can Support People's Work Goals
Session Description: Enabling technology means “Enabling greater self-reliance where someone lives life; not just where they live.” It’s important to overcome the natural tendency to only consider technology within the boundaries of home. Examples of “mobile technology” and software applications will be presented within the context of their real life use – pre-employment; travel; and work.
We’ll cover a range of enabling technology options that enable people to:
Find work they’d like (job search/matching software)
Develop job-specific skills (virtual reality)
Get to work (Wayfinder technology; micro-transit)
Work as independently as possible
The urgency of pursuing these opportunities can be found in national trends. Today, 21 states include remote assistance in their waivers to help a person obtain or maintain paid employment or self-employment.
About Harold: Harold Sloves is an Innovation Consultant for Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities Services, Systems & Networks entailing consultation and speaking engagements in multiple states. This professional chapter follows his role as Director of the Division of Program Innovation within Tennessee’s Department of Intellectual Disabilities. During his tenure as Innovation Director, Harold led a multi-disciplinary team to find, develop, test and offer innovative solutions for people, their families and providers.
