Tech First Talk - Session 11 - "How Remote Apps Improve DSP Service Delivery" 6.27.24

$45.00

Session Speaker: Doug Meeker and Nicole Roberts

Session Title:  How Remote Apps Improve DSP Service Delivery

Session Description: According to a recent ANCOR survey, the Human Services Industry faces multiple challenges, including high DSP turn-over and vacancy rates. At the same time, a majority of Human Service Professionals believe technology has a key role to play in addressing these issues. Implementing technology effectively can be elusive for organizations unless they know how and where the use of tech will make a difference. Using case studies, Doug Meeker will explain how digital coaching platforms like LifeSherpa can drive, enhance, and help measure outcomes, with a particular focus on a 3-year research study conducted by St. Joseph’s University at an internship program at a Philadelphia area hospital. In addition, Doug will show how LifeSherpa is being used by DSPs in a variety of settings, including what’s worked and what hasn’t.

About the Speakers:

Doug Meeker

As the CEO/Co-Founder of LifeSherpa, Doug combines his background in technology with his passion for helping people with disabilities gain more self-reliance and lead more independent lives. LifeSherpa is an all-in-one software platform that uses assistive technology tools, customized to an individual’s specific needs, to empower support professionals at service organizations to drive enhanced outcomes in vocational, academic, community and residential programs. Doug was inspired to create LifeSherpa by his son who was diagnosed with Autism/IDD at age 3 and struggled with executive functioning and emotional regulation challenges. Prior to becoming involved in disability tech, Doug served as a senior leader at digital media and software companies including AOL, Best Software, Examiner and Gannett.

Nicole Roberts

Nicole Roberts has been a practicing occupational therapist for 9 years. Currently she is a Clinical Assistant Professor and Academic Fieldwork Coordinator for the Occupational Therapy program at Saint Joseph’s University in addition to her continued work as a clinician for Fox Rehabilitation. She is a graduate of University of the Sciences receiving her BS in Health Science and MOT degrees from the University. She has worked in a wide variety of settings including outpatient pediatrics, school-based care, IU classrooms, geriatrics, and home care, but found her niche at Bon Homie with young adults with disabilities post-transition from the school system. This population was the focus of her OTD capstone that she completed at Temple University in 2017. Nicole is continuing her capstone research with the occupational therapy students that she brings to Bon Homie and also with the Project SEARCH program at Phoenixville Hospital using the Life Sherpa app. Nicole hopes to increase awareness of the needs of this population through the dissemination of these projects.
