Tech First Talk - Session 25 - The Real Cost of Enabling Technology for Organizations

$45.00

Session Title: The Real Cost of Enabling Technology for Organizations

Session Description: A

Across the country, states are adopting enabling technology at varying rates within the long-term support services field. While many provider organizations recognize potential benefits for individuals receiving services, some remain concerned about the associated costs. This session will examine how not implementing technology may lead to higher overall expenses compared to adoption. Regardless of whether technology costs are state-covered, this presentation will describe Keystone Human Services' experience with integrating technology to address both individual outcomes and organizational needs, resulting in more efficient staff utilization and a reduction in vacancy rates through reinvestment of cost savings into their workforce.

About Nathan: Nathan Gerhard serves as the Associate Executive Director of Intellectual Disabilities Services at Keystone Human Services in Pennsylvania. With over two decades of experience in the field in both Pennsylvania and Maryland, Nathan is currently concentrating on expanding the use of enabling technology and remote supports throughout Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey. Since 2018, he has been spearheading the initiative to incorporate independent living technology into conventional service models, beginning with 2 residential homes in North Central Pennsylvania. By 2025, Keystone had expanded its reach to more than 120 locations, resulting in over 200 people having independent living technologies embedded within their support systems in their service delivery models.
